Calendula is a noted febrifuge, but it does a lot more than break fevers. Calendula soothes stomach ulcers, relieves menstrual cramps, softens varicose veins, and fights eruptive skin diseases, including herpes zoster (shingles). Externally applied, the cooled tea soothes burns and promotes healing of open wounds. When used as eardrops, it reduces the pain and discomfort of an earache.

Calendula is simply the familiar marigold in formal dress. The golden-red-orange flowers of the marigold are pleasing to the eye.
