Pack self-efficient Herbal Sleep Pillows and Sachets

People who have found other methods unsatisfactory have been greatly helped with sleeping problems by the use of herb pillows. A vast amount of herbs would be needed to fill a pillow. It is better to make a small cushion on which you can rest your neck or cheeks while you are in bed or relaxing in a chair. Or make a simple muslin sachet which you can slip underneath the pillow-case.
Use muslin, cotton or linen. Man-made fibres can cause a build-up of static electricity, making the skin feel clammy, and preventing the aromas passing through the material.
Suitable Herbs for Sleep Inducement
Hops (one of the most sedative herbs available), sweet woodruff, lady’s bedstraw, bergamot, rose petals, mint, thyme, lavender, rosemary, lemon verbena, angelica, marjoram (oregano), sage, valerian (use very, very sparingly).
To make a small cushion or pillow, combine herbs as desired and put into a small muslin sachet. This can be sewn up or tied. Insert this muslin sachet into the middle of the stuffing you have chosen for the pillow — clean feathers or a natural-fibre wadding or filling.
Cover with pretty cotton fabric, leaving one end sewn in big stitches so that the cover can be easily removed for washing and the herb sachet removed from the stuffing. The herbs will need replacing after prolonged use.
For an under-the-pillowslip sachet of about 6 x 8 in (15 cm X 20 cm), use muslin or another very loosely woven cotton fabric, filling it with suitable herbs.
For a soothing, clean fragrance, combine marjoram and lemon verbena with a little thyme and mint.
Lavender combined with a little lemon thyme, lemon verbena and sweet woodruff is a good combination, particularly if one is feeling stuffy and headachy. Lavender is well known as a cure for headaches, particularly where they have been induced by tension. For a comforting fragrance, combine lady’s bedstraw, hops, rose petals, a little marjoram and a little crushed vanilla pod.
