Normal hair (dark): Rosemary, sage, lavender Normal hair (light): Chamomile, calendula Dry hair: Chamomile, comfrey
Oily hair: Nettle, yarrow, thyme, sage
Dandruff: Sage, thyme, nettle, lavender
Choose any combination of the above herbs. Bring 1 quart of water and 4 tablespoons of the dried herbal mixture to a boil over medium heat in a covered pot. Turn off the heat and allow to steep until cool.
Strain out the herbs and use 1/2 cup as a final rinse after shampooing and conditioning. For extra fragrance, add 3 drops of lavender essential oil to the hair rinse before applying it to your hair.
If you have dry hair, mix the herbal rinse with a conditioner and apply, then rinse out. Store remaining herbal rinse in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Softening Foot Soak
Treat your feet to a little pampering with this softening and fragrant foot soak.
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup borax
5 drops lavender essential oil rose petals
Fill a plastic tub large enough to comfortably hold your feet with hot water. Stir in 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of borax, both of which are natural skin softeners and fresheners. Add 5 drops of lavender essential oil and a handful of rose petals if you have them.
Soak your feet for 10 minutes to soften calluses. While your feet are still damp, gently remove calluses with a pumice stone or callus file. Clean under your toenails, and push back your cuticles with an orangewood stick. Pat your feet dry, and trim your toenails. File gently to smooth rough nail edges, and apply Nail Nourishing Oil.
Aromatherapy Nail Soak
A warm herbal soak with fragrant essential oils softens your hands and makes it easy to shape up your nails and cuticles.
1 tablespoon calendula flowers
1 tablespoon chamomile flowers 1 teaspoon almond oil
5 drops lavender essential oil
Make an herbal infusion by pouring 2 cups of boiling water over calendula and chamomile flowers. Allow to steep until comfortably warm and strain into a bowl. Add almond oil and lavender essential oil.
Soak your hands in the warm bath for 10 minutes. Clean under your nails, and push back your cuticles with an orange wood stick while your hands are damp.
Pat your hands dry, and trim and file your nails. Massage Nail Nourishing Oil (see recipe that follows) into your nails and cuticles, and buff your nails with a natural chamois buffer
