Herbal Cleansing Milks / Cream
Posted by arlene under Bath , Beauty , Cleaner , Cosmetics , Facial Treatment , Flowers , Leaves , Massage , Moisturizer , SpaMilk cleansers are much gentler on your skin than soaps. Making your own herbal cleansing milks is simple. To keep them fresh for more than
1 week, freeze the strained herbal milks in ice cube trays, and pop out a cube to thaw as needed.
For Dry to Normal Skin:
2 tablespoons calendula flowers
1 tablespoon chamomile flowers
Combine calendula flowers, chamomile flowers, and rose petals with milk in a pint-size glass jar. Steep overnight in the refrigerator. Strain and rebottle and store in the refrigerator. Use within 1 week.
For Oily to Normal Skin:
2 tablespoons lavender
1 tablespoon peppermint
Combine yogurt, filtered water, lavender, and peppermint in a pint-size glass jar. Steep overnight in the refrigerator. Strain and rebottle and store in the refrigerator. Use within 1 week.
To use dampen your face with warm water. Soak a cotton cosmetic pad in the cleansing milk and gently wipe your face. Repeat several times to thoroughly cleanse your skin. Rinse with warm water, sprits with a toner, and follow with a moisturizer for your skin type.
Gentle Cleansing Grains
These cleansing grains gently exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells, leaving your skin silky smooth. They can be used daily in place of other cleansers, and make an excellent base for facial masks.
For Dry to Normal Skin:
1/2 cup almonds
2 tablespoons dried rose petals
2 tablespoons dried comfrey leaves
For Oily Skin:
1/2 cup almonds
2 tablespoons dried lavender flowers
1 tablespoon dried peppermint leaves
1 tablespoon dried comfrey leaves
Using a clean coffee grinder, finely grind the oats, almonds, and herbs in separate batches. Mix well, and add cosmetic clay if desired. Store in a covered container. To use, mix 1 heaping teaspoon of cleansing grains with enough warm water to make a creamy paste. For thy or mature skin, add 1/2 teaspoon of almond oil if desired. Gently massage the mixture into your skin and rinse well with warm water.
Aromatherapy Facial Mask
This simple mask combines the purifying benefits of clay with fragrant essential oils. Clay masks tend to be drying, but can be used on thy skin with the addition of almond oil or honey.
2 teaspoons yogurt
1/2 teaspoon honey or jojoba oil, if desired essential oil appropriate for your skin type
Combine cosmetic clay with yogurt and 2 drops of an essential oil appropriate for your skin type. Add honey or jojoba oil for a moisturizing mask. Smooth onto clean skin. After 15 minutes, remove with a warm, wet washcloth and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Finish with a cool water rinse, spritz with a toner, and apply a moisturizer.
Strawberry Exfoliating Mask
Strawberries, yogurt, and rosemary essential oil all have gentle exfoliating properties. Use this delightfully fragrant mask once a week to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant.
1 medium strawberry
1 teaspoon Gentle Cleansing Grains
2 drops rosemary essential oil
Mash 1 medium strawberry and blend with 1 teaspoon of yogurt until smooth. Add 2 drops of rosemary essential oil and 1 teaspoon or more of Gentle Cleansing Grains to make a spreadable mask. Apply to clean skin. After 15 minutes, remove with a warm, wet washcloth and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Finish with a cool water rinse, followed by a sprits of toner and moisturizer.
