Lymph-Stimulating Foot Bath
Posted by arlene under Bath , Beauty , Feet , Fragrance , Herbs , Massage , Oil , Organic , SpaYou’ll need:
2 deep buckets large enough to hold both of your feet
2 tablespoons powdered ginger rosemary essential oil
Alternating hot and cold foot baths help to stimulate lymphatic flow and also relieve tired, aching feet and legs. Fill one bucket with water as hot as you can tolerate and stir in the powdered ginger, and fill the other with ice cold water. Use buckets large enough to comfortably hold both of your feet with the water at least covering your ankles. If possible, find buckets deep enough so that the water will reach to the middle of your calves. The higher the water reaches, the more it will assist lymphatic flow.
Dilute 5 to 10 drops of rosemary essential oil in 1 teaspoon of witch hazel, and add to the hot water. Sit in a comfortable chair and immerse both of your feet in the hot water for 3 minutes. Immediately plunge your feet into the cold bucket for 30 seconds. Repeat the cycle 3 times, ending with the cold water soak.
Cleansing Sitz Bath
You’ll need:
2 plastic tubs, large enough for you to sit in comfortably essential oil of your choice (see suggestions that follow) witch hazel
Sitz baths alleviate congestion in the abdominal organs and help to stimulate circulation and lymphatic flow in the pelvic region. They take a bit of effort, but are one of the most effective treatments for relieving menstrual cramps, constipation, prostatitis, cystitis, and digestive disorders.
You’ll need plastic tubs that are large enough to comfortably hold your buttocks. The aim is to focus the hot and cold treatment on the pelvic region, so the water should reach to your navel, leaving your upper body, legs, and feet out of the water. Fill 1 tub with water as hot as you can tolerate. Fill the other with ice cold water. Add 10 drops of essential oil diluted in 1 teaspoon of witch hazel to the hot bath. Choose your essential oils according to the condition that you are treating. Use lavender or geranium for menstrual cramps, fennel or marjoram for constipation, eucalyptus or juniper for prostatitis or cystitis, and ginger or basil for digestive discomfort.
Immerse your hips in the hot tub for 3 minutes, and then immediately shift to the cold bath for 1 minute. Repeat the cycle 3 times, alternating between the hot and cold tubs, and ending with the cold. For best results, use sitz baths 1 to 3 times daily until the condition you are treating is relieved. During a cleansing program, a series of 3 sitz baths on consecutive days can be taken to stimulate cleansing of the abdominal organs.
Purifying Herbal Inhalation
You’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons dried eucalyptus
- 2 tablespoons dried peppermint
Herbal steam inhalations help to immediately relieve lung and sinus congestion and are excellent for treating colds, flus, coughs, and bronchitis. Bring 1 and 1/2 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot, turn off the heat, and add the eucalyptus and peppermint. Cover the pot and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Place the pot on a table at a comfortable height so that you can sit in front of it. Remove the lid, and make a towel tent over your head and the pot to capture the steam. Breathe in the herbal steam for 10 minutes, lifting the towel to regulate the flow of steam as necessary.
Steam inhalations can be used several times a day when treating a respiratory infection. During a cleansing program, inhalations can be used as desired to help cleanse the lungs and respiratory passages.
