This rich avocado mask can be used weekly as a treat to nourish dry skin. Mix up a large batch and apply it to your arms and legs if they tend to be dry and flaky.
- 1 tablespoon ripe avocado
- 1 teaspoon yogurt
- 1 teaspoon Gentle Cleansing Grains
- 3 drops sandalwood or lavender essential oil
Mash together 1 tablespoon of a soft, ripe avocado with 1 teaspoon of yogurt. Add 3 drops of sandalwood or lavender essential oil and 1 teaspoon or more of Gentle Cleansing Grains to make a thick, spreadable mask. Apply to clean skin. After 15 minutes, remove with a warm, wet washcloth. Rinse thoroughly with warm, then cool water. Follow with toner and moisturizer.
Honey-Lavender Mask
Honey is a soothing moisturizer for dry, oily, and normal skin. It acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin. Lavender essential oil is balancing for all skin types.
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 3 drops lavender essential oil
Combine 1 tablespoon of honey with 3 drops of lavender essential oil. Dampen your face and neck with warm water, or apply an Aromatherapy Facial Compress. Smooth on the honey-lavender mixture. Allow the mask to remain on your skin for 15minutes, and remove with warm water. Follow with toner and moisturizer.
Herbal Toners
Use herbal toners after washing your face to remove any remaining traces of cleanser and to soothe your skin. Toners are also refreshing when used as a quick skin cleanser after exercise or in hot weather.
For Dry to Normal Skin:
- 1 cup distilled witch hazel extract
- 1 teaspoon each: dried chamomile, calendula, comfrey, elder flowers, and rose petals
- 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin, if desired
Combine the witch hazel and herbs in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Allow the mixture to steep for 2 weeks in a warm, dark place. Gently shake the jar every day to keep the herbs from settling. Strain, and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin if desired for extra moisturizing properties. Store in a clean glass bottle. Shake well before using. To use, saturate a cotton ball or pad with toner and apply to skin.

- 1 teaspoon each: dried yarrow, peppermint, chamomile, lavender, and comfrey

Strain, and store in a clean glass bottle. Shake well before using. To use, saturate a cotton ball or pad with the toner and apply to skin.
