You’ll need:

1/2 cup fine sea salt

1 tablespoon almond oil

5 drops grapefruit essential oil

Once a week, treat yourself to this all-over body cleansing scrub. Fine salt crystals exfoliate dry and dead skin cells, and almond oil moisturizes your skin, leaving it silky smooth. Grapefruit essential oil adds purifying properties as well as imparts a delightful uplifting fragrance. This body scrub can be combined with any of the purifying baths, or can be used in the shower as a special morning treat. Use caution when using oil in the tub or shower, as it makes for slippery footing. Use a rubber tub mat to prevent falls.

Combine the sea salt, almond oil, and grapefruit oil in a small wide- mouth plastic container. Mix well. Dampen your body with warm water. Using approximately 1 tablespoonful of the mixture at a time, massage the scrub with a gentle circular motion into your skin, beginning with your calves and working up your thighs, buttocks, and abdomen, avoiding the genital area. Do not rub vigorously, because the salt can irritate your skin if applied harshly. Work up each arm, massaging across your shoulders and back. Use a light touch over the delicate skin of your breasts and neck, and avoid your face. Remove all traces of salt with warm water; and finish with a cool rinse. Pat dry, and enjoy the luxurious satiny feel of your newborn skin.

Herbal BeautyCaution: This scrub should not be used by those with sensitive or broken skin, as the salt and grapefruit essential oil can cause irritation.

Skin-Renewing All-Over Body Exfoliant

You’ll need:

1/4 cup uncooked rolled oats, ground 1/4 cup raw almonds, ground

1/4 cup corn flour or fine corn meal 1 tablespoon almond oil

5 drops lavender essential oil

5 drops rosemary essential oil

This luxurious body exfoliant removes dull, dry skin and leaves the body silky smooth. It is gentle enough for all skin types, but to be safe, use a light touch if you have sensitive skin and do not apply to broken, burned, or irritated skin.

Grind the rolled oats and almonds separately into a fine meal in a blender or a coffee grinder. Place in a small plastic container, and add the corn flour, almond oil, and lavender and rosemary essential oils.

Dampen your entire body in a warm shower. Beginning with your calves, scoop up approximately 1 tablespoon of the scrub mixture, and gently massage into your skin with a circular motion. Work up each calf and thigh, and massage your abdomen and buttocks. Massage up each arm and across your shoulders and back, and gently massage your chest and neck. Rinse well with warm water, finishing with a cool rinse. This gentle all-over body scrub can be used once a week to keep your skin fresh and radiant.

Caution: This body scrub is slippery because of the added oil. Use a rubber tub mat to avoid slipping in the tub or shower.

Invigorating Herbal Detoxifying Soak

You’ll need:

3 tablespoons dried nettle

3 tablespoons dried red clover blossoms 2 tablespoons dried peppermint

5 drops peppermint essential oil 5 drops rosemary essential oil

1 teaspoon distilled witch hazel

12-inch square piece of muslin or a cotton handkerchief

Herbs can be used externally as well as internally for purifying the body. Nettle and red clover blossoms are gentle cleansing herbs, and peppermint helps to improve circulation and has stimulating properties. With this treatment, you are essentially making a bathtub full of herbal tea. Place the dried herbs in the center of the handkerchief or square of muslin. Gather the corners of the fabric and tie with a piece of ribbon or cotton twine, making a loop long enough to hang over your tub faucet. Hang the packet of herbs over the faucet so that the water can run through the herbs. Fill the tub with comfortably hot water, and then remove the herbal packet from the faucet and place in the bathwater.

While waiting for the tub to fill, dry brush your body to enhance the cleansing effects of the bath. Just before entering the tub, add the essential oils diluted in 1 teaspoon of witch hazel. Disperse throughout the water with your hand. To intensify the effects of the treatment, sip a cup of cleansing herbal tea while soaking in the tub.

Soak in the tub for 15 to 20 minutes, adding hot water as needed to maintain a comfortable temperature. To enhance the energizing and stimulating effects, finish with a cold shower. This bath is especially nice for increasing energy at the end of a long day.
